My program has been playing on ICC for a couple of weeks (using the handle "GothmogX") and has currently a rating of 2372. It seems impossible to find an opponent of similar strength -- only much weaker players want to play against my program. So far, my program has played 123 rated blitz games, and _zero_ of these games have been against opponents rated 2300 or higher. Only seven has been against players rated 2200 or above. My program started out with a too low rating, partly because timestamp didn't work and it lost several games on time, and partly because my xboard interface code was buggy and the program sometimes crashed during a game. After that, the rating has been climbing, but _extremely_ slowly because of the weak opposition. At ratings around 2400, there are many human players and very few computers. Around 2700, we have the opposite situation (or so I guess -- I don't have any statistics). Therefore, it should be much easier for programs rated around 2400 to get games against similarly rated humans. For some reason, precisely the opposite seems to be the case. Tord
