He seemed to be in control of every game in his last computer match. Even in the draws, the computers were skating on thin ice. I wonder if Kasparov and Kramnik are used to playing people below them that aren't "tactically invincible" (no, computers aren't tactically invincible, but compared to humans they are very strong in that department and rarely overlook a slight slip up, where as a human might). So maybe if Kasparov or Kramnik are playing a second tier GM, they can afford a bit of risky business. There are also other factors such as intimidation, just knowing that you're playing one of those two guys. It seems like K&K might be able to toy with a lot of players and cause them to get into trouble (maybe because they're so talented, or because of intimidation, or whatever). Maybe a guy like Smirin who isn't really a "chess superstar" like K&K are prefers to always play more sound, solid chess. Or maybe he just plays his best and isn't interested in a publicity stunt. *shrug* In any case I'd like to see him give some chess engines a schooling again :)
