The most important feature of Chessmaster 6000 is its “Natural Language Advice”.
In conversational spoken and written English, the program gives you its
analysis of chess positions. Below is a sample analysis of one of my chess
games by Chessmaster 6000. After using the "Auto-Annotate/Analyze Move List…"
and "Copy/Move List" features, I copied the annotation and analysis to Microsoft
Window's clipboard. The text was then imported into Microsoft Word and printed.
By reviewing these printouts, one's game can improve tremendously because the
program flags missed chess combinations by both players in the annotation. In
addition, the analysis indicates the best move at each position in the game.
The score evaluations for the board positions at each move in the game are
given. However, the Chessmaster 6000 has a bug in it so that the minus sign
does not appear when it should. I have notified Mindscape of this problem.
The second most important feature of Chessmaster 6000 is the “Coach Window” and
“Practice Openings” feature. The “Coach Window” shows book moves in it’s
limited, but fully named, opening book library. With the “Coach Window”, a
player can follow the book moves that lead to numerous variations. The
“Practice Openings” feature is useful when you have the name of an opening and
desire to know the moves. The “Coach Window” is useful when you know the moves
of an opening and desire to know the name of the opening. It is the only
program that displays the detailed names of most chess opening variations.

1. d4 ... ;A40 Queen's Pawn Opening. The Queen's
;Pawn opening move is somewhat slower
;than the popular e4, because White will
;not be able to castle for three more
;moves. Its advantage is that it gives
;White more control over tactical
;surprises and often provides more
;lasting initiative and pressure.
... Nf6 ;A45 Indian Defense. The immediate
;development of the Knight is the most
;supple response to the Queen's Pawn
;opening, allowing transposition into
;virtually every type of defense at
;Black's disposal.
2. c4 ... ;A50 Indian Defense / Indian Defense 1.d4
;Nf6 2.c4. White, with c4, tries to
;restrict Black's options in attacking
