I just switched from Fritz 6 to Fritz 8. I use this program almost exclusively to analyze my tournament games. With Fritz 6 I would get nodes per second of around 600 to 800K on a 933 mhz machine running Windows 98. With Fritz 8 the program starts out about 400K NPS, but frequently drops and sometimes gets as low as 10K NPS. This seems to be true when I do long searches, as I like to analyze my games with blunder check set to 17 ply deep. (Perhaps more deep than I need but why would the NPS drop?) So far it looks like fritz 6 is much faster even though the Fritz 8 packaging claims that it is faster. John Coffey
