It's a pretty time consuming proposition... My guess on the best way to do it would be to play through an opening line for which you know a good middlegame plan and then start the engine up. If the engine follows a good middlegame plan and seems to "understand" the position, then it is probably a good line for the engine to play. As a general rule, positions with blocked pawn centers or subtle (or endgame-centric) gambits are ones to avoid. Also, positions leading directly to endgames are generally good to avoid (computers are generally bad at endgames). Matt
