i thought the same as you till i recently moved back home and managed to get my
second comp next to my first and started playing eng vs eng matches on 2
computers; ( i also have an old comp which i use for general work and internet
so that it does not interfere with the matches)

the results are completely different; i have so far only tested fritz8 vs
shredder704 and between fritz8 and junior8; but although i am awaiting more
matches so far the differences are startling:

you are unlikely to hear any criticism as most testers dont have 2 equal comps
or a dual system so they will always test with ponder off! the very few people
who do have an identical dual system or 2 comps will always test with ponder on;
i will not post the results here but if you want to know i can send you the
results and games of my matches between f8; s704 nad junior8 with and without
ponder off and you can decide for yourself!
