Thats what I'm waiting for,is the release of AMD's 246 Opteron Chip. From what
all the Computer Venders are telling Me,its going to be about 3-4,5-6 weeks
depending on Who's information from Thier AMD source is accurate. The Vender also
say that the 246 Opteron Processor will be somewhwere around 1200.00 dollars
each. Those Benchmarks You were speaking about were not proformed with the 246
Chip were They? I don't believe so,the 246(2Ghz) Chip should do real better than
that. Crafty should SCREAM with the Opteron 64 bit. I have posted serval times
on the CCC Board ,that the top Computer Chess Programmers need to revise Thier
Program to accomadate this new 64 bit technology. The Programmers do read these
postings on this Board,so don't be surprised to see 64 bit Programs out before
Christmas. Theres money to be made ,and the Programmers know it. What Operating
System are You planning to have installed with those Opterons? Windows Server
2003(64 bit)? One other consideration is theat a Quad Opteron Processor is not
that much more than a dual Processor, considering the money that You would be
spending already. Some of the Venders have sent Me some quotes ,and the
difference between a dual and a quad is not much more than the price of 2
Processors -vs- 4 Processors. If You build Your own ,there It is. You want the
faster/strongest/best don't You? Let Me hear what You think.>>>>Mike
