You are right, Mchess normally would not have played 14...d4.

The only plausible explanation seems to be a positive book learning effect from
earlier games, then cancelled after the loss against Rebel again, as you
suspected.

So I will do the following:
1. Make a new Mchess install (no earlier learning effects implied).
2. Play a new game and post it.


It's become complicated to test programs these learner days, not only with
Mchess... ;-)
