I do not do it but I think that a GM may perform at level of more than 2100 even if he is forced to play some inferior option like 1.a3 or 1.e4 a6 I believe that movei can also get more than 2100 against humans even with no book and with always changing the first move that means choosing often lines like 1.e4 h5 or 1.g4.
