I am looking for an affordable portable chess computer to play for fun on the bus, train, at lunch etc. I am about a 1250-1300 player. In the last issue of Chess Life the Novag Jasper was advertised at for $30 with an estimated rating of 1750 (probably inflated). I was wondering if anybody out there has purchased it and could give me their view on their purchase. Is it fairly fast? (enough to play Blitz on it) I bought the Saitek Kasparov Portable about a year ago and was extremely disatisfied with how terribly slow it was at higher settings (even when the correct moves were obvious). Im not expecting Fritz power, of course, but I expect a computer to figure out a lone king's only flight square in less than a minute (I'm not exagerating by much). Also for the computer to move faster than I do. (I ended up giving the Kasparov away to a beginner, which seemed to suit her purposes). I used to own a Fidelity portable about 4 years ago, was very satisfied with it, until I lost it (It would take at most 15 sec per move) I would also appreciate hearing from other Portable's owners with the brand of the machines, and their level of satisfaction of it.
