My main concern is the 'open' in my question. We have to look after a format for
our little project ( http://www.java-chess.de ) and since our sources are under
GPL, our opening book format will be kinda open anyway, since you could study
the sources. But it might be good idea to look for a few other projects and then
come up with a common format, that is well documented somewhere on the net.
Maybe even 2 formats. One readable (maybe XML) and a second one that focusses on
efficiency (most likely a binary format). In any case, I'd consider it really
helpful, if there would be a public document, that describes any detail of the
format, so any other project could use it. Anyone interested?

Ciao,
Andreas
