Not only for germans. I remember my school days - when we had english class and
german class the same day, this happened all the time. "Become" somehow seems
like such a natural translation for "bekommen", but it's not.

This also happen for other languages that are strongly related, like
swedish/danish/norwegian which are close enough that if you know one you can
generally understand the other two as well. Except for a few words with
identical spelling, but opposite meaning!
