This might be a sad case of resigning too soon. If 53.g3 instead of gxh3, then
after the simplification 53...Bf3 54.Kd4 Bxe4 55.Kxe4, it's drawn (according to
both Yace and Crafty). The Black king can never approach the base of White's
pawn chain on h2 without a passer running away up the board fast enough to queen
simultaneously with Black's h3 pawn, so White can round up Black's a-file passer
at his leisure. Although I don't know what happens for sure if the bishop isn't
swapped for the knight after all.
