Searching the Chessbase online database, I found the game Handke - Polzin, Bundesliga 2001 following the Junior - CM9000 game through 18...Qc3 (so, no novelty for CM9000). This game indicates the correct course of action for White, as the continuation 19. Qc5 Qb2+ 20. Kd2 gxf5 21. Qxf5 led to a draw a short time later. Apparently, it did not get much attention, since there are later games where 17...Rfc8 is nonetheless played. Using the Winboard engine Ruffian to analyze (which found 18...Qc3 in 68 seconds on a mere Celeron 433, so I think it's qualified to comment), it appears the draw was not an unreasonable result, although Black still has an appreciable edge, around half a pawn. Although Black can eventually round up all of White's queenside pawns, White can generate play against Black's a7 pawn and the Black kingside weakened by the unfortunately necessary 20...gxf5. I just don't know how anyone can play the Dragon, with its crazed attacks and constantly shifting theory. Regards, Vine Smith
