Once upon a time, Intel decided to create a new low cost series, the Celeron. To get a quick time-to-market, the initial batches were actually Pentium II/450 chips that were stripped down and sold as Celeron/300. Not surprisingly, they could easily be clocked up to 450 again. Normally the chips are tested and sold at the highest slot they fit in. Makes the most money! However, if chips are sold at speeds 2400, 2533, and 2600, those ranked 2400 of course lie somewhere between 2400 and 2533. Maybe it will work well at 2450 or 2495, who knows (who cares?). Bob usually tells about his student overclocking a machine, where everything worked "fine" except for one instruction failing for negative floating point numbers... Bo Persson bop2@telia.com
