  I think the first thing to know is that most of them are rubbish. But some are
 very good. Jeremy Silman's "Reassess Your Chess" is good, and anything
 from John Nunn is good.
  To supplement chess books, get the software product, "CT-ART". It's good for
 tactics training. It does'nt supplement any particular book, though.
