hi , I'm the author of a very new ( and - still - very bad engine , I'm still in the second year of University , so I don't know that much yet ... hash tables for example , I've learned it last semester ) chess engine , and I'm writing now the timing code for the engine ( you can see I'm still beggining .. hehe ) . I wanted to ask if someone could explain me how much time should I spend in each search ? Given a TIME game ( wich TIME can be 5, 10 , 15 , .... inf minuts ) , how much time should I spend in each move ? Should I simply divide the TIME by the number of moves I'm guessing I would do (a contanstat them)? Or you usually analyse the current game status and give diferent times for diferente chess positions ( wich seems better than giving a constant amount of time for each move ) ? And , if so , what should you consider ? Branch fator ? N of captures ? Well , thanks for you time and patience . This is my engine homepage . Don't dowload it unless you really want to give it a shot !! (soooo many bugs ... be patinent , please . But it does play chess ! hehe ) http://www.ic.unicamp.br/~ra017335/go2chess You should get the development version , wich is the most updated one. http://www.ic.unicamp.br/~ra017335/go2chess/go2chess-dev.tar Cya
