As Martin suggested below, you need tactics above all.  Get Convekta's CT Art
3.0 tactics test and you will get the best tactics trainer possible.  The
program will keep track of your results, assign ELO, shuffle around the
positions you have problems with, etc.  No need to set up the board, no need to
read much.  But to reach the strength of a chess master you will need much more.
You will need to understanding how to reach tactical positions which is
impossible without a sound knowledge of strategy.  Thus your task is difficult
but noble.  Try not to give up.  Step one:  get CT Art 3.0.
