Sorry, Tim Foden: you were correct:
I left out two aspects of the set up
for the experiment: thanks for catching
me.
The steps I left out were:
1. Opponents switch sides so that each plays
   white an equal number of times.
2. Chances in all games must be (modeled as) independant
   of the time at which they were played (to keep the
   math and concepts simple) and thus learning
   must be overlooked.
Please accept my apology for leaving those out.
I am sorry for wasting the time you spent solving
the miss stated problem.
