Why? As stated before several times by now, it runs 32 bit software
very fast as well. If you don't want to use Linux, you can use the
old Windows and the old chessprograms you have now too. It'll run em
faster than an Athlon or Pentium 4 does.

Given that prerelease versions of 64 bit Windows are apparently already
available to some development shops, a full release can't be far off.

It's not the Opterons fault that Microsoft was slower than Linux on
this one. The chip is great.

Mine already does. Works nicely with SCID on Linux, too. Christophe is
working on Chess Tiger.
