I totally agree.

weak players cannot decide about the level of players who are clearly better
based on games.

I remember that one beginner said that another player is stronger than me and
the reason that he gave for that opinion is that the second player beated him
more convincingly.

I can only guess that when I played my normal game, the second player tried
something like e4 Bc4 Qh5 Qxf7#
