I may be wrong, but I don't think White can reasonably expect to achieve much on
the Q-side. I would not fault a player for observing that he has more space on
the K-side and therefore decides to secure the Q-side before turning their full
attention to the K-side where he an edge. Silman's "pawn pointing" rule in
action I suppose.

It's true that White could play more flexibly on the Q-side and that leaving the
situation fluid there might serve to limit Blacks ability to meet Whites play on
the K-side. Indeed this is the type of solution I would probably try to seek,
but 16.a5 does not look so terrible to me as to deserve a "??" as far I can
tell. The position is not so simple.
