I just did a quick test with Warp. I ran the LCT II test suite to depth 10 and recorded the appropriate counts. I found that the in-check generator was used 12% of the time. That is, at 12% of nodes where move generation was required, the other 88% of the time the not-check generator was used. Certainly a bigger percentage than I had first estimated, but not nearly as big as what you are seeing in the King. As you indicated, it seems likely the percentage will vary quite a bit from program to program depending on tree shape. cheers, Peter
