I have no idea what your problem is.  I will say, however, I haven't seen the
issue you mention with my program.  I use printf to write to stdout, and fgets
to read.  To see if data is waiting, I use the check_input code from crafty.
(yes, I admit it.  I took code from crafty.  but that's it.)
