It is only meaningless in comparing his results to SSDF, ponder=off matches on
one cpu are not meaningless. Your comparison to boxers and sprinters are
meaningless though, look at how much extra depth (at that timecontrol) the
engines get's from pondering... If we say that a doubling of speed adds 50-70
elo points and the program is say 2650 with ponder=on then you get a 2600
performance with ponder=off which is equivalent to a sprinter missing a toe or a
boxer missing a finger :)
