Your comparison to boxers and sprinters are meaningless though, look at how much extra depth (at that timecontrol) the engines get's from pondering... If we say that a doubling of speed adds 50-70 elo points and the program is say 2650 with ponder=on then you get a 2600 performance with ponder=off which is equivalent to a sprinter missing a toe or a boxer missing a finger :) Jonas
