hi jonas:

i completely disagree with u; the time management with ponder on and off for the
different eng are quite different;

an engine can think in its opponents time and move instantly and then spend a
disproportionately large time over critical moves and relatively less time over
straight forward positions; with ponder off there is not so much time variation
between moves; s704 and j8 often spend a lot of time over critical moves and
much less in simple positions with ponder on; fritz on the other hand does not
sheow this sort of behaviour to the same extent;

this difference in time management has consistently shown whenever i test f8
against s704 or j8; with ponder on s7 andd j8 beat fritz; with ponder off it
loses to fritz by a wide margin;

with ponder off cm9000skr almost manges to beats f8 and shredder704;

with ponder on it gets totally thrashed;

hence my analogy; which i think is quite valid

the poeple (such as your self and myself who have 2 cpus/2 identical comps to
test on will never test with ponder off; and the people with a single comp who
test with ponder off do not realise what a huge different testing with 2 comps
makes; and hence they keep trying to present their results on this forum;

these results are in my opinion only of amusement value!
