At the moment everything may be very nice - their software looks very good. They bring out better programs at lower and lower prices. BUT when they are a monopoly they will be fat and lazy. Innovation will be slow and more mistakes. There must be strong competition for progress in a market. We need people like Ossi Weiner! However Fritz is an interesting chance for the chess programmers. Writing the graphics is boring and expensive with all the debugging and support. All that creativity lost for always inventing the same wheel new. Now we will see so much more great variety of engines because this hard work is not necessary anymore. Where would software be if everybody had to write the operating system first? The programmers have made big jumps in playing strength from the first to the second engine version: (F.Morsch: Fritz4 -> Fritz5, M.Uniacke: Hiarcs4 -> Hiarcs6, A.Ban: Junior4 -> Junior5). So somehow it seems to be very good for the authors.
