Intel might put some 64 bit logic in there that can be turned on later (Pentium 6?), sort of like what they did with Hyperthreading, if AMD64 turns into a runaway hit, but right now I imagine they still don't want to eat their own babies (i.e., Itanium). So I'm guessing your only options for a 4.2ghz laptop processor are future AMD64 processors... They're supposed to get up to 2.6ghz with their 0.13um process so they might barely get there with 0.09um in a couple years... Intel got a ~50% speed increase from 0.18um -> 0.13um, but keep in mind that the P4 was designed for the 0.13um process. But that'll be a top of the line desktop processor, give it another year or more to become "mobile." Your other option is a PPC 980 Mac. They're supposed to be at 3GHz next year and the 970 is supposed to have good power consumption so it might likely get to a 4.2ghz laptop form before AMD... -Tom
