I had a draw with CT15 this past WE. I remember Ken Smith saying that chess requires total concentration and he also said don't use a fraction of your clock make sure you take time to think. Two weeks ago when I drew Hiarcs 8 I took 5 minutes thinking whether to post my Queen's Bishop on g5 or e3. I noticed that my QB could be chased away with h6 by H8. So unless I was willing to trade it for the Nf6 I would lose tempo with Bg5. Another consideration was that with the way Hiarcs moves positionally it would have been suicide giving it the 2 Bishops in an open board. I noticed that Nc5 by Hiarcs would be a good post-up move for it to make positional [it happens to be that a White Be3 hits a Nc5 by Black]. Hiarcs moved two moves after I moved Be3 to Nc5 and I traded my QB for Hiarcs QN. The game a little later petered to a slow draw in under 40 moves. I no longer have a copy of the late IM Ken Smith's "Chess Improvement Course" but if you can remember some of the major training tips he gave you can take care of your business when you sit down and play chess with someone. Yes you should take time out to think about the ramifications of placing your pieces on the board especially your 4 minor pieces. cordially yours, Frank Nelson
