The list price for our 2 X >2.0Ghz Opteron system is around $6000. For the two-way 1.5Ghz Madison system dual opteron is a lot cheaper if i build it from pricewatch. About half that price. Of course without IBM service then :) >that gets 30 SPEC FP rate it's $26,000. oh even more than i had guessed. Holy mother. Also they're not delivering the 1.5Ghz madison cpu's yet, but that's another story. Secondly to get that FP performance they cheated quite a bit with the compiler like not following conventions. And i am sure you don't get that HP compiler delivered with the itanium2s for that $26000, which is the only compiler for itanium2 that has a good score at it. Because no one has that compiler, i couldn't checkout yet how they are getting to their results. Usually such sudden high scores have a bad smell. For sure at itanium2. It takes 24 hours to generate a bit of PGO for it. Imagine that i must wait 24 hours to compile a single diep version!!! Which programmer on the planet is going to sit and wait 24 hours????? >>For integer performance story is different, but that thread was about FP >>performance, right? :-) >> >>Thanks, >>Eugene
