Subject: Opteron vs. Athlon64

In an IRC channel today, there was some confusion as to whether to Opteron and
the Athlon64 are the same thing or not. As I understand it, the Opteron is the
server class version, and the Athlon64 is the single user version.

If they are different, what is different about them? I am looking for specifics,
such as cache size, and that sort of thing. I was able to find this information
about the Opteron on AMD's website, but nothing along these lines regarding
Athlon64.

Which would be preferable for computer chess?
