Thanks. That's useful!

I've been using the Chessbase GUI for about 4 years and am still learning. My
introduction was with an older version of HiArcs, a baffling experience because
the operating instructions never mentioned HiArcs, only Fritz. So what was this
Fritz, anyway, and how did it relate to HiArcs? Never heard of it! Couldn't
figure it out. Well, eventually I got the idea, but that's typical of my
problems with the Chessbase instructions. They're out of left field. They assume
too much. It takes forever to learn how to use it. The latest operating
instructions & design is somewhat better, but they need to get away from calling
everything Fritz. The world isn't made of Fritz crackers. I've never bought
Fritz. I bought HiArcs, and recently Shredder 7.

My main project right now is trying to get it to retain my custom "Plain Color"
definitions for the chess pieces and chessboard. My custom color definitions
appear to be saved OK, because I can reload the layouts from the GUI's Windows
menu. And they're properly reloaded after I exit then restart the GUI, but only
once. On subsequent restarts, it always reverts to the original default Maple
board and white/black for the piece colors. I've looked at the .ini files but
can't figure out a fix. I'm running Shredder 7 & Windows XP.
