That is the downside of e-mails, forum posting etc as opposed to live
interaction,.  There is much greater chance of mis-interpretation when only the
words are read and there is no ooportunity for eye contact.  One way to ensure
your attempt at humor is communicated is through the use of a wink or smile.

have a big nose, I use the complex variation of ;>) or :>)  .....
