Uh, I am not going to lose anything.  Since the O/S isn't changing the
_other_ registers, and since I will be the only application running that is
using those registers, there is no real problem.  Not 100% safe if you run
lots of other stuff, but I did it on the Cray more than once with no problems
whatsoever...
