True, if you're looking for increased search depth for every move.
But higher nps might give you an additional ply in a few moves during a game. If
that happens to be in a critical position it can save or win a game for you.

But in general you should not expect too much from e.g. 10% increased nps. You
will probably hardly notice it. And if you're introducing obfuscated code to
accomplish the tweak, you will probably regret that a few weeks/months later
when you want to change that part of the program.
