One line of thought goes like this. Assume you search 6 or 8 plys deep. At the end of the search you call quiesent to verify that the opponents last move was good, however if you are on a odd ply it will verify that your last move was good or better. I am not sure if this is correct but my program plays a little differently on odd plys and I tend to think that it makes better moves. Bill
