Subject: Hand helds

In the old days I spent obscene amounts of money on dedicated chess computers.
Now I was thinking of getting a general purpose hand-held (palm or whatever) and
some chess software.

One thing I am unsure about is how to get the chess program into the hand-held.
Do I need Windows to do this?  The well know commercial programs seem to specify
MS Windows series as a pre-requisite.
