>The last one I had was the beautiful Mephisto Lyon (wooden auto-sensory board), >which I sold many years ago when it was obvious that PC + software was the way >to go. > >Now I think that the handhelds are probably at least equal to the old dedicated >units and much cheaper – and more than strong enough for me. hi Frank "way to go" only if one is interested merely in playing strength however as a collector of dedicated chess computers playing strength has little if any importance to me the strongest dedicated units are stronger then most human players except of course GM'S and perhaps IM's personally it makes no sense to me to keep buying the new pc chess playing programs when it is impossible to beat even the ones released 5-8 years ago additionally i have no interest,nor do i see the point in pitting one program against the next i am not sure exactly what importance we should place on knowing which program is the strongest against another program human vs.computer play is somewhat interesting but of course Kasparov has turned that sport into a mockery(with his non-sporting behaviour and running away from the good fight in his matches) like i have mentioned several times before on these pages,when i want to sit down and enjoy a relaxing game of chess ,give me a nice wooden board,with nice pieces and a decent playing program and i am a happy camper no mouse and computer screen for me..thank you very much oh and the Dgt board is still not totally independent of the computer if you want to see the remaining clock times or even the computers evaluation of the position you are still clicking away with the mouse, squinting at the pc screen Best Regards Steve >Frank
