I am not strictly against modifying an engine for personal use. for example there was a proposal here some time ago to modify Chessbase version of Chesstiger 15 in order to correct a mistake from Chessbase. Modifying the Winboardengine TheKing is not necessary since it runs fine in any GUI without that. I never had any problems and you can read on Aaron Tays Winboard FAQ that there are some flaws with the mentioned patch in analysis mode (the most important mode for me). The patch makes it obviously a lot easier to illegal trade TheKing 3.23 by email. Posting links to download sites is of course not conformable with the charta of this message board. Michael
