my experience is that the easiest way to cut down on spam involves accurate use of a firewall-- not spam filters. 1) instruct your firewall software to deny http priviledges to your mail reading application(outlook, eudora eg.). Then those persons who send 'sniffing' junkmail with http hooks don't get a response from you and the crap doesn't multiply. 2) spam filters can reject important business mail. 3) never assume that an email is secret especially if you got it for free.
