I have had a dual 1800+ and 2600+ in the past, and a dual 2800+ right now.
On DF7 mark with 64Mb. hash it looks like this:

1800+ 1450 kn/sec.
2600+ 2050 kn/sec.
2800+ 2100 kn/sec.

At my work I have a dual Xeon 3.06, with hyperthreading this machine gives 2450
kn/sec. But it is not only kn/sec. that matters, with hyperthreading on the
program runs with twice the number of threads, it is possible that this has a
negative influence on the search efficiency.

Way to go is dual Opteron 246 or 248, the last one is coming soon.
With df7 I expect at least 3000 kn/sec. with such a machine.
