The March 2003 update for the Shredder7/Fritz8 GUI from the Playchess.com server (which I obtained yesterday) introduced a new Shredder 7.04 engine into my Engines folder. It's a "real" Chessbase engine with an .eng extension. That's as opposed to the UCI engine of the same name which I previously obtained, a couple of months ago, via download from the Chessbase website. So, how do they compare? My preliminary indications are that the .eng version is faster, however I haven't attempted any tests yet. So I don't know whether that's due to the engine itself, or due to an improvement in the GUI. Anybody else notice anything? WP
