 Hello Jack, welcome to this world... if you are looking for a simple source
code, the classic one is Tom Kerrigan Simple Chess Program, do a search on
google for TSCP, i think the link is http://home.attbi.com/~tckerrigan/ but i am
not sure. For the theory this may be a good place:

 Read it first and then take a look on the code of TSCP.
