You are trying to make your engine competitive in a difficult world. Your first priority surely must be to make your engine play better. I can appreciate that. That would be my top priority too if I were in your shoes. Truly, I would think about little else. Unlike yourself, my interest in chess software is as a user. I care about the information provided by the software to the user [me] and feel the need to know how to interpret the information given. I try to get chess programmers to make their software more user friendly but I still place "quality of moves" at a high priority level. To me the bottom line is: "How useful is this software to me?" GUI output [& input] is important to the user. The inner workings down in the bowels of the engine are not something I should be concerned about. Anyway, such matters are "over my head" since I am not a professional computer programmer. Bob D. > >Uri
