Hi Kurt, One of my Computer has played hundreds of 10 second games Hiarcs9 against Hiarcs8 Bareev with tournament book option checked in the new Hiarcs 9 GUI. This is possible if you set time control 0 min + 0 increment. Dont worry, only to test the book of course. :-) My first impression is : The book is horrible. [Event "?"] [Site "?"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "New Game"] [Black "Hiarcs 9"] [Result "*"] [PlyCount "10"] 1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Nd5 3. d4 d6 4. c4 Nb6 5. Nf3 Nc6 * It plays 5...Nc6 out of book. A move with a bad reputation. [Event "?"] [Site "?"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "New game"] [Black "Hiarcs 9"] [Result "*"] [PlyCount "12"] 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. c4 Nc6 5. cxd5 Qxd5 6. Nf3 Nf6 * 6...Nf6? is a tournament move. Black is practically lost after this move. Bf4 * Hiarcs 9 tournament book plays unusual lines in the Morra-Gambit. Very bad idea IMO. I could give many more examples. In the book are many unusual lines marked as tournament moves. Therfore they are often harmless or even bad. The engine seems to be very strong. Forget about the Hiarcs9.ctg and use your own books if possible. My prediction is: Hiarcs 9 will not get the rating it deserves at SSDF unless they are allowed to test with another book. Michael
