If I'd put all my notes and books on my desk they would surely be accessible at
any time when I need them. I still prefer to have a somewhat clean desk with
only the notes/books on them I use to do the current job.

In terms of programming: I prefer small functions who have a clearly defined
purpose and who get exactly the parameters they need to fulfill the purpose.
