Done on my aging IBM PIII 500, with 128MB SDRAM. Hiarcs and Fritz used their respective books with learning on and ponder off. They both used 32MB hashtables, default settings. Fritz dominated the first half of the match, but book learning helped Hiarcs to catch up. Hiarcs is very aggresive in King attacks, but often exposing its own King quite often. Of course this is blitz and tells me little about how it might play in T/C's much slower than this. Nevertheless, Hiarcs 9 did very well, better than Junior 8, Tiger 15, and Shredder 7.04 against Fritz 8. Fritz 8 defeated all these engines under the same conditions. Fritz 8 vs All 1. Fritz 8 2. Hiarcs 9 3. Shredder 7.04 4. Tiger 15 5. Junior 8 I'm sorry I didn't keep all the Crosstables...although they are in the CCC Archive. These matches were independent, all were Fritz 8 vs..., so it won't say how the other engines would do against each other in a large round robin event. It's suggests only that Fritz in an engine match, under these conditions did the best at blitz, 4'+2" T/C, and Hiarcs 9 2nd best. I'm impressed so far with the result and improvements made in Hiarcs 9. Crosstable: Default, Blitz 4'+ 2" 0 1. Fritz 8 +24 +42/-35/=23 53.50% 53.5/100 2. Hiarcs 9 -24 +35/-42/=23 46.50% 46.5/100 (100 Games) Terry
