Just in case you have trouble with your K6 processor which has been very aggressively recommended by some as the best chess CPU for certain programs, you might find this information useful before spending more time trying to resolve the issue: The German c't magazine reported findings (for details in German language see http://www.heise.de/newsticker/data/up-03.11.98-007/ ) about K6 processors labeled "A9837" to "A9839". The issue occured when an older K6-2 300 in a stable system was replaced with one of the suspect processors: Windows 98 reported "Windows Protection Error" at startup. One workaround, according to c't magazine, is to set system clock to less than 100 Mhz speed. Newer K6-2 300 processors (> "A9839") don't show this particular phenomenon. AMD is expected to comment in a few days on this issue. (all information taken from the URL given above) Moritz
