my MoveGen is based on a few big tables. For instance I have one for knights, which tells me that a knight on a1 can move to c2 and b3, and a knight on a2 can move to c1, c3 and b4, and so-on. Then I just have to check if there are pieces on the square I want to move to, or in the way (not a problem for knights of course). I do not use bitboards. I don't know how fast this is, but it seems reasonable (about 3,000,000 million moves per sec is I think what I got last time I tested it.) thanks
