Tests I have run on the identical proccessor - the Novag Star Diamond , indicate about a 3x speed improvement over the Novag Sapphire II. 3X is a very nice improvment over the Novag Sapphire II will get you to 2300 max (if one assumes a 2225 rating for the Novag Sapphire II - which may be high.). I believe the Novag Sapphire II is around 2150 or less and that would put the Novag Star Diamond around 2225 or less IMO - making claims of 2500 that are seen in some places a gross exageration. In emails I exchanged with Steve, they are saying the unit may be as high as 2400 - but part of that logic is based on the Sapphire II being around 2300. The Sapphire II was initially offered as a 2300 unit, but I don't think anybody believes it is a 2300 unit today. The main point is that their delta of 100 points is reasonably close to my expected delta of 75 points based on the 3x speed improvemnt over the Sapphire II. - The simple matter is that the processor, although one of the strongest ever used in a dedicated machine - simply does not compare to the new xscale/arm proccessors used in today's PDA in MIPS - we are talking processors that may be 30-40x slower (MIPS) than a processor used in a top PDA . I also believe that the engine would not be considered one of the top engines today - although the unit is plenty strong enough for 99% of the people. A new Dell Axim, running 400 Mhz xscale procssor under PPC 2003, with either PF2 or PGM will easily destroy the Star Diamond Star Sapphire in any match and would be at least 200+ points stronger. I have already played some quick games (Star Diamond) and they are not even in close. The biggest difference is the processing power of the procssor being used in each device. I now see 45000 nps in certain positions with PF2 - that is a huge number when compared to any dedicated unit. BTW, I have just sent Frank Schneider some new graphics (board colors) for PGM which will be in the next release that some users will enjoy. I'm already using them in my personal copy of PGM. Best, Michael
